Materials and care

BRUTTUS Collection 001 is made with Gibeon meteorite from Namibia, cultured Akoya pearls, and 925 sterling silver. Each material has a different surface and needs a little care.

Gibeon meteorite

Look closely at a meteorite bead and you may see fine lines crossing the metal. This is the Widmanstätten pattern, a structure that formed as iron and nickel cooled slowly in space. The pattern is part of the metal itself.

Gibeon meteorite is found in Namibia. Its surface, tone, and pattern vary, so beads can look slightly different even within the same piece. Those differences are normal for the material.

Gibeon contains iron and nickel. Keep it dry to help prevent oxidation. This collection is not nickel free and may not be suitable for people with a nickel allergy.

The meteorite beads are rhodium-coated; the chains and connecting components are solid 925 sterling silver. One meteorite bead weighs approximately 1.9–2.4 g and one Akoya pearl approximately 0.40–0.45 g, with natural variation between individual beads and pearls.

Cultured Akoya pearls

Collection 001 uses cultured Akoya pearls. Their pale lustre brings light to the darker meteorite, while small variations in shape, tone, and surface keep the pairing from feeling uniform.

Pearls are softer than metal. Protect them from scratches, perfume, hairspray, lotions, alcohol, and cleaning products. Put your jewelry on after applying cosmetics.

925 sterling silver

Sterling silver contains 92.5% silver, combined with other metals for strength. We use it for chains and components according to the design of each piece.

Silver can tarnish through contact with air, moisture, and cosmetics. Use a soft silver polishing cloth on the silver parts only. Keep polishing chemicals away from the pearls and meteorite.

How the pieces are made

The bracelet contains 4 Gibeon meteorite beads and 2 Akoya pearls; the necklace contains 6 and 3. The complete pair of earrings contains 2 meteorite beads and 2 Akoya pearls. We assemble and finish the pieces in small batches, paying attention to how the materials sit together.

Natural variation means the piece you receive may differ slightly from the photographs in pattern, pearl tone, and surface detail.

How to care for meteorite jewelry

  • Keep the piece dry. Remove it before showering, swimming, using a sauna, or exercising.
  • Take it off before sleeping to protect the chain and components.
  • Keep perfume, lotions, alcohol, and household cleaners away from it.
  • Wipe it gently with a soft cloth after wearing.
  • Store it separately in a dry pouch or box, away from heat and direct sunlight.
  • Use a polishing cloth only on the silver parts.

If you notice a change in the meteorite surface, contact us before trying a cleaning treatment.
